Florida Real Estate Market Cooling Down A recent survey of Florida home owners suggests that home owners are much less optimistic about the real estate market over the next couple of years than was the case just one year ago.

prices. The results were part of an online survey conducted by Harrison Interactive for Attorney's Title Insurance Fund. Slightly more than 1,000 homeowners in seven different Florida real estate markets participated in the survey. 110 of the respondents live in Sarasota County, and of the seven areas surveyed in Florida, Sarasota homeowners were the most unsure about the future of their property values. Roughly 40 percent of those surveyed thought home prices will increase over the next year, while another 40 percent think they may decrease. The remaining 20 percent believe the prices will remain the same. Local Florida real estate agents expressed doubts about the survey results citing the fact that it was conducted on the internet and was therefore limited to internet users. Others questioned the general pessimism relected in the survey saying that they did not see that level of pessimism in their own day to day dealings with real estate owners and buyers. The survey also revealed that a large percentage of those surveyed (78%) were not anticipating buying a new home in the next year. And although the affordability of housing was a major obstacle for many (72%), the largest number of homeowners were more concerned with hurricanes (52%) than with the possibility of falling prices (18%). Together these numbers suggest that the Florida real estate market has stabilized, at least for the present, and that most people are more concerned about the cost of maintaining a home rather than the profit or loss they might realize by selling and buying another one.
